PHOBIAS AND PANIC ATTACKS

What is a panic attack?

One of the most frightening things you may find yourself experiencing is a "panic attack" and it is not possible to fully explain how it feels unless you have experienced one. The very first panic attack seems to come completely "out of the blue" and normally occurs whilst you are doing something that you do every day like driving to work, shopping, walking the dog etc. Suddenly you are struck by a barrage of frightening and uncomfortable symptoms and you are convinced that something terrible is going to happen to you.

Panic attacks can start for reasons such as stress, overworking, loss of a friend or family member, an accident, childbirth, following surgery and so on. For most people, however, panic attacks can occur for no apparent reason and take you completely by surprise. This unpredictability is one reason that the attacks can be so devastating if left to continue.

People that have never had a panic attack assume that that it is just a feeling of nervousness or anxiety, but in reality the attacks can seem far more frightening and overwhelming.

What happens next is that you begin to associate the panic attack with the activity you were doing at the time so you start to avoid that situation. This is where the problems begin, as each time you are forced into the situation that caused the attack, you automatically assume that it will happen again and start to re-live the same feelings, only stronger.

Panic, more commonly known as panic attacks, may be part of a Phobia or Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder. However, panic attacks often happen at random and when least expected. When panic occurs as an illness in isolation it is, of course, very distressing and frightening to the sufferer as he/she cannot think of any logical reason why it should occur. This is because the feeling and thoughts that cause a panic attack are produced in the unconscious part of the mind.

Panic attacks can be frightening, disabling, and are usually mistreated over a long period of time by well-meaning "health professionals". This can be both frustrating and detrimental to the individual. It is very common for a sufferer to feel quite at ease one minute and then find that the next minute he/she is struck by utter terror.

By utilising Advanced Hypnotherapy, NLP, and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) we help to alleviate and eradicate panic attacks from your life.
